There are actually many different citation styles so it is important to know which one you need to use. If you are writing for a publication check their author information page to find out what style they require. If you are writing for a class you can ask your professor. If there isn't a requirement for type of style you must decide on one and stick to their rules. Some of the most common citation styles in the health sciences are the American Medical Association (AMA), the American Pyschological Association (APA), and Vancouver.
